Horoscopes are fun, i should admit. People read them often, some of us believe in them and some of us live by them, no matter in which category you fall, again horoscope is fun. It gives some people hope, for some others it is junk.

I see myself in the category of people who read horoscope if they are in front of me, but i never search for them and most of the time i don’t remember they meant anything to me.

This post is just about fun and keeping a record for what might go in 2011 for all Scorpios (for those who might be asking, i was born on the 15th of November), even that there no way 2 sources give you similar predictions, but let us have fun and here you go.

2011 is about unexpected events. Year will start and end with surprising note. Financial security, growth, risk, and planning will be keyword this year. Scorpio loves to build financial strength. This year should reward the hard work and passion. You have been working for past few years to transform financial fortune. Now, you are working passionately on a specific confidential project. Do plan your loan, income, and taxes well in advances. Secure your assets and reduce your liability. This year has power to make you rich. Diversify your portfolio with proper risk coverage. Remember, second house is more about earned income while first half is more about income from other sources like Insurance amount, long pending business overdue, divorce settlement, or property dispute.

You may be evaluating new tools of communication, export-import to foreign land, or online sale. These businesses will grow faster. Unexpected turns are possible in your financial or emotional journey. Partnership will bring gains in your life. Earned income and partner’s income is also on verge of changes. It all depends on your financial planning skill how much you can gain through these changes.

Scorpio born within October 23 to November 5 will see more initiation points, while Scorpio born within November 9 to November 22 will see more culminations.

As yet another year draws to a close I wanted to take this opportunity to finish it with a blog post.
2010 was a very exciting year for me on many levels, i will write about some of them while other will keep them for my private life.

I learned lots of new stuff, made lots of “new mistakes”, planned and rectified those plans on many occasions, hired and fired people, was tough with some and nice to some others, read lots of books and news, regretted lots of decisions, got stuck in Europe because of Eyjafjallajökull and life goes on.

Business was good to a certain limit, we had our ups and downs. Doing business in Europe is not easy for many reasons specially if you are dealing with a product(s) that is not present in the daily consumption list of consumers.
My company (where i work, i don’t own it) is in the frozen seafood business and our brand is known to many, specially in Lebanon, we are Siblou.

Economy in Europe is suffering, i will not discuss this, so many sites and blogs are analyzing the issue on daily basis. With this bad economy, companies are fighting to keep their margins and maintain the business level, while retailers are pushing for more discounts to compensate the loss due to the poor consumers spending.
So we should be prepared for tough negotiations in 2011, which already started since December 2010 and the early effects started showing up.

As example, Carrefour is asking for more discounts while the yearly turnover of 2010 is down compared to 2009 and they are closing some of their stores and they are squeezing their shelves in order to get the most out of every square millimeter, so you can imagine the meeting atmosphere with the buyers.

Competition is also being very harsh and new small companies are popping up like mushrooms messing up the business of the big boys, exactly the same way some of them are disappearing lack of focus, planning and profit.

On the other hand, we have big plans, expansion in new markets, new products, creating more brand awareness and understanding our consumers more.

In Lebanon, I have seen new wonders and i get freaked out most of the time, and totally forgetting about the old and new wonders of the world, because the new popping ones in the Land of Cedars are the most amazing and people creating them are endlessly imaginative, inspired & artistic *being sarcastic*.

I am not sure if i really want to talk about this, here and right now, as i am afraid the blog post will never see an end so i keep on believing that Lebanon is different and we will all survive.
But if you are Lebanese and reading this, i can already see that smile on your face from where i am standing :-)

I was also fascinated in 2010 by the new technologies on all levels, mainly the online services and how everything is moving slowly to the cloud and i took advantage by using lots of them, specially when it comes to collaboration, because we, as a company, we conduct lots of remote businesses, due to the locations of our offices and time zone differences, so i hope the people behind these products will keep innovating in 2011 to make our lives more easy, simple and productive.

My stocks portfolio is in free fall mode since many months, because i am not following it closely, lack of time zone difference and my frequent trips, i should also admit I made some mistakes while picking some stocks. I should go back asap to my trading motto: “when buying be patient, when selling don’t be greedy”

One of the books i read this year is called “Creating Your Own Destiny”, i encourage everyone to read it, it is so motivating and i like to share with you a quote from the book:

“Tell everyone what you want to do and someone will want to help you do it.” ~ William Clement Stone

Some of my new year resolutions are very classical and in random order, eat more healthy, work out often, lose some weight, be a better person, learn and read more.

I will also try to deepen my knowledge in the retail industry as much as i can, by reading, digging and searching for more information and i will do my best to surround myself by people more clever than me so i can learn and get inspired and motivated.

I want also to thank God for everything i have and for everything i got in 2010, this is more than what i do deserve. My close family and myself, we are all in good health and this is a wonderful blessing.

Whomever you are and reading this posting, be well and have a wonderful new year.

I joined twitter on the 13th of February 2007 and i don’t remember for how long the service was already out and running.

At the beginning I was not really active tweeting then became addicted to a certain extreme limit and lately I am controlling this addiction and this control led to one of my new year resolutions which is being less active on twitter and more on Quora (which I believe will be big in 2011 because of the accumulating knowledge the site is carrying).

This post is not about discussing the blogging or micro blogging services and their impact, it is about how Lebanese tweeple communicate and tweet. Since joining twitter i have followed and unfollowed lots of people, i have seen the clever and stupid, the smart and dumb, the useful and the useless and filtered my time line very often, but what kept coming to my head is the Lebanese way of tweeting (not everyone but most of them) and below is a typical time line out of my imagination.

Tweeple #1: morning Lebanon

Unlimited number of tweeples: morning tweeple #1, long time no see, long time no hear, we miss you, i love you, how are you, bla bla bla

Tweeple #1: oh thank you thank you i miss all of you too

(knowing that they had a tweetup 24 hours before this conversation)

Tweeple #1: i feel like having a breakfast, what should i eat?

Unlimited number of tweeples: have a man2ouche, no a croissant, i suggest labneh 3al saj, no eat healthy, i adore nutella, bla bla bla

Tweeple #1: ok i will have all what you have suggested

Tweeple #2 (girl): i was thinking of buying a new bag and shoes, what about we make a tweetup and discuss it???

Unlimited number of tweeples (girls): akid charchoura, i have wonderful ideas for you, chefet skarbineh mbere7 bel Hamra bett tayyer el 3a2el, yiiii la2 ana ma fiyeh ajlouwa please, bla bla bla

Tweeple #3 (boy): Guys, i am thinking of buying a new Camaro model el 2015, haydi special edition ou ma fi menna ella 100 cars worldwide, i need to have one of them to feel i am aligned with life ou se3ra bass 75,000 dollars bass iza bjiba men dubai bwafer fiya chway (knowing that he can barely afford to buy a Nissan Sunny 1995 model, with all my respect to people driving Nissan Sunny cars).

Unlimited number of tweeples: no dont buy that camaro, it is not good, i heard that there is a strange noise in the engine and they cannot locate it, so fiya deffo menel cherkeh, no buy this car, much better, no buy that car, and the discussion goes on the “lebanese style” analyzing and finding what all the engineers of Mercedes-Benz and Ferrari and Porsche missed while designing their cars.

OK, let us have a tweetup and design our own car and while we are there we can also discuss the political situation in Lebanon and the region and analyze what will happen next.

Tweeple #999: I feel so down today because my cat did not feel OK yesterday, took her to the vet and i could not sleep all night long as i wanted to make sure she is sleeping peacefully.

Unlimited number of tweeples: yiii sorry to hear this, walla bssayentik ma btesstehal, bassita allah karim, ra7 dawila cham3a la tsso7

Tweeple #1025: i became the mayor of restaurant “best hamburger in town” (and this check-in is number 3,752 at the same location) ya khayeh walla fhemnna enno bet 7ebb el hamburger taba3 “best hamburger in town” ou jarabneha ou btekhod el 3a2el ou ra7 na3mellak wassel fiya.

Tweeple #3710: let us have a tweetup because i did not eat sushi since our last tweetup at “best sushi in town”

Tweeple #2762: I cannot believe my eyes, i crossed the line of 50,000 tweets, i feel great!!!

Unlimited number of tweeples: mabrouk el 50,000 tweet, walla ma 7ada addak 3al twitter ya chabb el twitter enta, ya allah my wish is to have the same number of tweets, starting this moment i will tweet everytime i use the bathroom, maybe it can help raising the number.

Hey you, “Stupid with 50,000 tweets”, i am sure that barely 1% of your tweets might have something useful for me or for others, you got to that number because you tell good morning every morning to the 1000 people following you and every time you take a breath you tweet about it.

And it goes on and on and on … so please go and download a messenger.

Having caricaturized the twitter time line the Lebanese style, i cannot hold myself saying that there are lots interesting tweeple out there who can easily fill you time line with useful tweets and information and point to interesting subjects. No need to make a list of names, you know who you are.

Quora is a continually improving collection of questions and answers created, edited, and organized by everyone who uses it. The most important thing is to have each question page become the best possible resource for someone who wants to know about the question.

One way you can think of it is as a cache for the research that people do looking things up on the web and asking other people. Eventually, when you see a link to a question page on Quora, your feeling should be: “Oh, great! That’s going to have all the information I want about that.” It’s also a place where new stuff–that no one has written about yet–can get pulled onto the web.
