DZ – Uno Supermarché
Retail distribution is not really developed in Algeria. Carrefour is here more than 2 years ago, but it is a total failure as local importers and brand distibutors describe it. The rumor in town is saying that Carrefour International have left their local partner to go solo on their own, some other does not support this rumor. While a new Carrefour is being built, we have to wait and see.
Another big player is in town, Metro the German giant is already here and building their first store in Algiers.
What was surprising during my visit is a new local player that is grabbing market share quickly on an empty ground, Uno Supermarché, already 4 stores up and running with a plan for expansion. if they keep opening stores like the one I have visisted, they will be a success story in Algeria.
DZ-Concrete Copy/Paste
Full concrete copy/paste you can see in Algiers, the camera angle was not wide enough to take the whole building, you need to add the same picture to this one from the left side to have the real size of this huge building.

Nokia To Accquire Symbian
As you may already know Nokia currently holds the controlling interest in Symbian, however not satisfied with that they are going to acquire a full 100%. The net cash outlay from Nokia to purchase the approximately 52% of Symbian Limited shares it does not already own will be approximately EUR 264 million.
But they don’t really want it for themselves but to create an open platform. In this direction, the Symbian Foundation, was announced today by Nokia, along with AT&T, LG Electronics, Motorola, NTT DOCOMO, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, STMicroelectronics, Texas Instruments and Vodafone.
